Every year, ANC Singapore marks twelve dates. Some honour people who gave everything. Others celebrate Italy and Singapore. Here is why each one matters.
22 February: Luca Attanasio, Vittorio Iacovacci and Mustapha Milambo
We remember Ambassador Luca Attanasio, Carabiniere Scelto Vittorio Iacovacci, Gold Medal for Military Valour, to whom our section is dedicated, and their driver Mustapha Milambo. They died near Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on 22 February 2021.
25 April: Liberation Day
Italy's Festa della Liberazione marks the liberation of the country in 1945 and the end of the Second World War in Italy.
23 May: the Capaci massacre
On 23 May 1992, near Capaci in Sicily, a mafia bomb killed judge Giovanni Falcone, judge Francesca Morvillo and three police officers of their escort. We remember them, and everyone who gave their life for the rule of law.
2 June: Festa della Repubblica
Italian Republic Day recalls the referendum of 2 June 1946, when Italians chose to become a republic. In 2026 we celebrated its 80th anniversary in Singapore.
5 June: Annuale di Fondazione dell'Arma dei Carabinieri
The Carabinieri's annual day. It recalls 5 June 1920, when the Arma's flag received its first Gold Medal for Military Valour.
13 July: the founding of the Carabinieri
On 13 July 1814, in Turin, the Carabinieri were founded by Royal Letters Patent.
19 July: the via D'Amelio massacre
On 19 July 1992, in via D'Amelio in Palermo, a mafia bomb killed judge Paolo Borsellino and five police officers of his escort.
21 July: Racial Harmony Day
Singapore celebrates its multiracial society. It is a value we share: respect for people of every background.
9 August: Singapore National Day
The anniversary of Singapore's independence in 1965, and a day to thank the country that is home to our members.
23 September: Salvo D'Acquisto
On 23 September 1943, at Palidoro near Rome, Vice Brigadiere Salvo D'Acquisto gave his life to save 22 civilian hostages. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour in memory.
4 November: National Unity and Armed Forces Day
Italy's Giornata dell'Unità Nazionale e delle Forze Armate.
21 November: Virgo Fidelis
The patronal day of the Carabinieri. We mark it inclusively, as an occasion open to people of every faith and none.
